Showing Our Theatrical Side :)

As we continue on our unit of Nursery Rhymes, we decided to take a vote on our favorites today. Those groups then worked together to stage the nursery rhyme. It was HILARIOUS and just as adorable as it sounds.

Our class favorites were...
Roses Are Red
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
Star Light Star Bright
Hickory Dickory Dock
Jack and Jill
....and I believe that was it!

Check out some pictures of our performances below! (Shoutout to Mrs.Seefried for the awesome idea!)

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star...
(Above the world so high...Too cute!)

Jack and Jill...

Star Light, Star Bright...

Hickory Dickory Dock...

So fun and creative! I loved this activity. We will definitely be doing more Reader's Theater
in the future!

I also wanted to say a HUGE thank you to all of those that have joined PTA! Our wonderful PTA board treated the teachers to an ice cream truck during our Early Dismissal training! It was so fun...and the Choco Taco was delicious! ;)

(Mrs.Holtzendorff couldn't contain her excitement!)

Everyone stay dry tomorrow and Friday! It should be a crazy, wet weekend!

Nursery Rhymes, Phonics, and More!

So we are jumping head first into week three! The kids are all done with iReady baseline testing (Hip, hip, hooray!) and we are getting into our units. Here is a little academic update for you...

-In Reading: We are learning about nursery rhymes! We have studied Rain, Rain, Go away... It's Raining, It's Pouring... Roses are Red... Ring around the Rosie... Jack and Jill... and Jack Be Nimble! We decided to get a little creative with Jack Be Nimble and change up the words saying, "______ be nimble, _____ be quick, ______ jumps over the pointer stick!" This can be done for fun at home with anything that rhymes... a big red brick, a little stick, a toothpick?? Get creative and have fun! We sure did. Check us out below.

A little Ring Around the Rosie Practice... And we even did it without getting too crazy! :) Impressive.

Andddd...cue the giggles! :)

Here is our "Jack Be Nimble" parody! :)
(I've learned I need to improve my action shot game a bit... I apologize for the blurriness.)

Oh man...I love these little goof balls!

In Math:  We are practicing using the terminology "exactly the same" and "not exactly the same". We are practicing number fluency, and comparing/matching two items! The kids are loving it. Ask them about our Rekenreks...We will post pictures of those later this week.

In Science: We started today learning about our five senses! We used our sense of sight to observe some really cool sensory bottles. Check them out, and let me know if you want info on how to make your own at home! They are a great "calm down" tool when the kiddos get worked up. They LOVE them!

In Foundations/Phonics: One of our classes lowest testing areas was rhyming. This is something that we are working on every day as a whole group, and will continue to work to master it! If you ever get an extra minute at bedtime or dinner, ask your child for words that rhyme! We are working hard to get this mastered! We are also starting our new curriculum, Saxon! It is a new to Duval County program that I think is really going to lay a great foundation for our kiddos! Be on the lookout for a paper coming home with them about it tomorrow.

A few reminders...
-Open House is this Thursday at 6 p.m.! Please try to make it, as we will have LOTS to go over! If you can't, let me know so we can set up a time to meet.
-Scholastic Orders are due in 2 weeks! Let me know if you need any recommendations. There are a ton of great books and resources through Scholastic.

Alright....Now have a great week and I hope to see you all Thursday! Here are some "Wild Thing" smiles for ya! :)
